KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General Police, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh on Sunday finalised an urgent security plan for all churches, missionary schools and Christian residential colonies in the province.
The directives were issued due to the unfortunate Badami Bagh incident on Saturday. Shaikh also reiterated that security measures were to be taken immediately at the identified sites. The IG said absolute care must be taken to avoid any untoward law and order situation around churches, colonies, schools, fast food chains and hotels.
Similar care has to be taken vis-a-vis protection and safety of the members of other minority communities and their places of worship, he said. A detailed report must be compiled about the places of worship, community centres and other relevant estate and property owned by minority communities in the province so as to ensure round the clock vigilance and protection.
Referring to Saturday’s event, the Sindh police chief said these were aimed at triggering mistrust among different religious communities and to cause tension. To counter this peace committees must be constituted at district levels and public confidence must be strengthened with equal attention towards professional competency of the police department, said the Sindh police chief. – DailyTimes
