ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Wednesday rejected review petition of former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani against his disqualification from being member of the parliament.
The SC raised objections over the petition and stated that petition is incomplete as it has not been filed within specific time and security challan was not attached with the petition.Moreover in its objections, the SC stated that petition has been filed personally sent through post while Aitzaz Ahsan was counsel for former Premier Yousaf Raza Gilani in the contempt of court case and review petition could be filed through counsel.
On June 19, 2012, the Supreme Court had declared Yousuf Raza Gilani disqualified from holding a seat in the parliament from the date of his conviction on April 26, 2012 by a seven-member bench for contempt of court.The Election Commission of Pakistan, following the court order, had issued the notification of Yousaf Raza Gilani’s disqualification and declared that Gilani will not be a member of parliament following the apex court verdict. – Onlinenews
