LHC moved against Qadri’s long march

Rawalpindi: A petition was moved before the Lahore High Court against proposed long march announced by controversial religious leader Tahir-ul-Qadri on January 14.   

Petitioner Huzaifa Bukhari submitted his petition by Advocate Assad Abbasi in Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court has made the Federation of Pakistan, government of Punjab, Tahir-ul-Qadri and Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) as respondents.   The petitioner claimed that Tahir-ul-Qadri, Canadian citizen, wants to postpone general elections by his long march. He prayed to the court to give orders against the long march and initiate proceedings against Qadri as the march was against the state and was a conspiracy to abrogate the Constitution.

The petitioner added that proposed long march can create chaos in the country therefore court must order to stop it.The LHC bench accepted the petition and would hear the case today (Thursday). Qadri, with Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) support, has called a “million-man march” in Islamabad to demand reforms in the electoral system. Qadri said Islamabad will become a ‘peaceful’ Tahrir Square during the march. MQM chief Altaf Hussain has expressed full support for Qadri and his cause and has called for the maximum number of people to participate in the march to bring a “revolution” in Pakistan. – Onlinenwes
