LAHORE: The matter of fake degree holders faced another twist when the Punjab University (PU) declared eight legislators’ degrees fake and sent the final report to Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The sources privy to the case told Daily Times on Thursday that HEC had given an ultimatum to all the universities concerned to submit report about the suspicious degrees of legislators about whom complaints have been submitted in Election Commission of Pakistan.

According to the sources, PU in its report sent to HEC said that it had no record of eight parliamentarians in the Punjab Assembly, including Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Muhabbat Khan Marri, Seemal Kamran and Amna Ulfat, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Afshaan Farooq, Farah Deeba and Shumaila Rana.

Besides these, KP Sports Minister and Awami National Party (ANP) member Syed Aqil Shah’s degree was also termed fake. Naseer Akhtar’s degree was also declared fake. After these inclusions to the list, the number of fake degree holder parliamentarians has reached 49. The number was likely to increase as scrutiny of the remaining 816 documents was under process.

The members of Punjab Assembly whose degrees had already been declared fake, included Waseem Gondal, Samina Khawar Hayyat and Safina Saima Khar. Meanwhile, six more members, Nauman Iqbal, Abdul Haneef, Muhammad Nawaz, Neelum Chaudhry and Muhammad Arkaan, have also been given a final warning to present their academic certificates. – Dailytimes
