The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Thursday, sought details of bureaucrats and judges who had been allotted two plots in Islamabad after filling affidavits for not owning any land in the federal capital.
The PAC also directed Ministries of Communications and Defence to resolve dispute of toll plazas between National Highway Authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO).The Accounts Committee sought details about rules under which two plots had been allotted to people in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).The committee also directed Ministry of Defence to submit inquiry report into manhandling of a Saudi Arabian official by Airport Security Force personnel at Islamabad International Airport in the next meeting.
Committee also directed the concerned departments to submit the list of government owned autonomous organizations who had refused to get their accounts being audited by Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP).Chairman observed that PAC would recommend to the National Assembly not to approve budget for those state owned autonomous organization for not getting their accounts audited by AGP.The Public Accounts Committee met here with Nadeem Afzal Gondal in the chair here at Parliament House to discuss the audit observations about accounts of Ministry of Defence during the fiscal year 2004-05 and 2006-07.
As per PAC’s directions, officials of FWO and NHA were present in the meeting and after detailed hearing of the dispute and observations from members, both the departments were directed them to hold negotiations, with the support of AGP representative, for the settlement of issue of toll plazas.Officials of both the departments held detailed discussions which prolonged for more than one and half hours and then came with an arrangement for the resolution of issue which was turned down by the PAC and Committee directed FWO to start depositing revenue collected from 54 toll plazas in NHA’s bank accounts within one week. – Dunyanews
