Violence erupts over hide collection

Violence eruptsKARACHI: Violence erupted in several parts of the city over hide collection on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Despite strict measures taken by the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) several city areas remained tense after the disputes over hide collection among the different political and religious organisations in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, Federal B Area, New Karachi and others areas.

An incident took place in Block 14, Gulistan-e-Jauhar where at least dozen gunmen rushed to a seminary Abdul Uloom, opened indiscriminate fire and took away some dozens of hides. Police said that the dispute occurred over hide collection, adding that gunmen did not take away the hides from the seminary, however, its administration claimed that culprits took away the hides by opening firing inside the seminary and ransacked it.

Another violent clash broke out at Daak Khana Stop, Khokhrapar, Malir, where exchange of fire between the rival political organisations occurred till the law enforcement agencies turned up. Police said that clash erupted over hide collection when workers of both rival political parties came to take the hides from the same house and scuffled with each other. The dispute changed into a gun-battle, however, it ended luckily without any major loss but the whole area came under panic.

Similar clashes were also reported in New Karachi, Baldia and Orangi Town where gunmen of rival political parties brawled over the issue of hide collection, however, police managed to control overall law and order situation.In Federal B Area, Block 9, within the limits of Jauharabad police station, some gunmen entered a house and held the inmates hostage and took away the hides. Police suspected it to be a political dispute. – Dailytimes
