SHAHDADPUR/RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday announced to formally launch a “Go Zardari Go” campaign across the country with fiery speeches by party President Nawaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Nisar Ali Khan in Shahdadpur and Rawalpindi districts, respectively.
Nawaz kick started the campaign in President Asif Ali Zardari’s home province Sindh, telling a massive gathering of flood victims in Shahdadpur district that the incumbent government was the most corrupt in the history of Pakistan, as Nisar told participants of a PML-N gathering in Kalar Syedan that Zardari was a “much bigger criminal” than former president Pervez Musharraf.“The whole country is under the siege of Qabza mafia at present. Zardari has broken records of Musharraf in wrong doings. He is an even bigger criminal than Musharraf. Zardari and the country cannot go side by side,” Nisar said.
Nawaz was no calmer in his stride, telling people that the incumbent corrupt government must be removed as it had failed to address the problems of the flood-affected people of Sindh. “I want to build a new Pakistan,” the former prime minister said. “I appeal to the people to stand by me to end the reign of dacoits in the country.”He said the people of Sindh should wake up. “Rulers have deceived you. We want elimination of corruption and corrupt rulers,” he said, adding that dacoits were flushed out of Sindh when he was the prime minister.
He said since 1947, interior Sindh was being deprived of development. “But I promise to address all grievances when I come into power.” Nawaz asked the government to give at least Rs 100,000 to each flood victim family for rebuilding their lives. He vowed to distribute land to poor farmers as he did in his last tenure.Meanwhile in Rawalpindi, Nisar said the “Go Zardari Go” campaign would start from Dera Ghazi Khan today (Wednesday). He appealed to the people to support the PML-N, saying the present PPP was not the PPP of Bhuttos, “it is the PPP of Zardaris”. “He [Zardari] has brought the country to the brink of destruction, but we are determined to save it,” Nisar said.
The opposition leader said there was no shortage of electricity in the country, rather power generation companies were not generating electricity as they were not being paid by the government. “Now the ‘Go Zardari Go’ campaign would end with the end of the government,” Nisar said.Nisar said the “Go Zaradri Go” movement would attain its peak after Eidul Azha. However, PPP leaders said the PML-N had started politics of confrontation for point scoring ahead of Senate elections. PPP Sindh leader Sharjeel Memon said PML-N should limit its preaching to Punjab. – PT
