General KayaniISLAMABAD: National Assembly standing committee for defense is all set to visit GHQ on Tuesday, to attend comprehensive briefing over matters concerning National security.

Reliable sources inform that committee members led by chairperson Azra Afzal Pacheco would be given a comprehensive briefing over issues pertaining to Nationwide operations/steps against terrorism, and “ post-NATO/ISAF transition scenario” military strategy of Pakistan. The committee’s visit, scheduled for an earlier 13th Oct, was postponed and rescheduled for 18th Oct due to committee’s chairperson’s other important obligations.

It is pertinent to observe that earlier, COAS General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani had extended an invitation to N.A, Senate defense committees, and Parliament Committee for National security to GHQ for a detailed briefing over National security matters. However the chairman of Parliamentary committee for National security, senator Raza Rabbani had refused to be briefed at GHQ, stressing that GHQ personnel should rather visit Parliament for any briefings. – Onlinenews
