PESHAWAR: Gunmen opened fire on a school bus in the city of Peshawar on Tuesday, killing at least three children, one teacher and the driver, SSP operations Ijaz Khan said.19 persons including two teachers, two civilians and 15 children were wounded, he said. The children on the bus were around nine years old.“First a rocket was fired but it didn’t hit. Then gunmen opened fire,” said Sahibzada Sajjad, deputy superintendent of police in Peshawar, where Taliban militants, often carry out attacks. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Another policeman said the shooting occurred near the Khyber Model School, which employed the bus at the Matani area close to tribal belt.“Gunmen opened fire on a school van and also lobbed a rocket in Peshawar’s suburb of Matani,” a senior police official said.The injured were shifted in leady reading hospital, where the condition of six children and one teacher is critical; meanwhile the emergency was imposed in the hospital.Police and law enforcement agencies after cordoning off the area started the search operation. – Sananews
