LAHORE: Parts of the country including the City received rains of varying intensities on Friday, putting the normal routine life to a standstill by causing urban flooding. Maximum 104mm rain was recorded at Lahore Airport and 21mm at the Jail Road observatory. The experts have forecast more rains during the next couple of days.In Lahore, short bursts of heavy downpour submerged roads and streets in several localities into knee deep water and it took hours to Wasa to clear inundated rainwater after stoppage of rain.

The inundated rainwater on roads added to the woes and miseries of the motorists and pedestrians. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on a number of important arteries till the evening. Several incidents of skidding of motorcycles were also reported from various parts of the City. The ongoing construction work on roads in various parts of the City multiplied the miseries of motorists and pedestrians.

After hot and humid day, the rains and windy conditions provided respite to the Lahorites from the muggy weather in the afternoon. People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy pleasant change in weather. Major parks and picnic spots in the City attracted a large number of people including women and children in the evening. Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Racecourse Park, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Jallo Park, Sozo Water Park, Lahore Zoo and other picnic spots attracted a large number of people in the evening. Massive traffic jams were also witnessed on the arteries in the close vicinity of these picnic spots. – Nation
