cda-to-launch-transport-serviceISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will launch the Prime Minister’s CDA Rapid Bus Transit project at a cost of Rs 200 million during the current month to mitigate the sufferings of commuters. CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi told APP that the transport service, comprising 30 buses, was being launched to facilitate the commuters of twin cities. He said that the project would be environment-friendly and all buses would use CNG as fuel. All the paper work to launch the project and ply these CNG buses on important routes has been completed.

Imtiaz said the new transport service is particularly focused to facilitate working class people, students and particularly women. The bus service with uniformed drivers, security guards and nominal fares will provide comfortable traveling facility to the commuters. The routes which have been selected include Route-1 from Secretariat to Faizabad via Murree Road , Route-2 from Barakahu to Aabpara, Route-3 from Faizabad to F-11 via Blue Area and Route-4 Sector I-11 to Secretariat.

He said special bus terminals and stops will be built to alleviate transport problems, adding each bus will leave the terminal with an interval of five minutes. Thousands of passengers traveling within twin cities will use this transport system on daily basis. Replying to a question, he said special high power units will be constructed in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum as the major reason of delay in execution of this project was non-availability of CNG stations for huge buses. – APP
