ISLAMABAD – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Friday directed Secretary Planning and Development Division to make a reference to Secretary Defence in respect of three retired Army Generals to initiate disciplinary action against them in connection with NLC scam without further delay. ‘It has been decided to accept the findings and recommendation, both specific and general, contained in the Hamid Hassan report’, PAC said.

The PAC directed Secretary Planning and Development and Division to make a reference to Secretary Defence in respect of three retired Army Generals including Lt Gen (Retd) Khalid Munir Khan, former OIC NLC, Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Afzal Munawar , former OIC of NLC and Maj Gen (Retd) Khalid Zaheer Akhtar, former DG of NLC to immediately initiate disciplinary action against these officers in accordance with applicable rules for serious lapse in discipline, lack of transparency and blatant violation of government rules and regulations during their tenure in office as per specific charges spelt out in the Hamid Hassan report.

The PAC, in the same ruling asked Secretary Planning and Development to write to Secretary Cabinet/CDA in respect of former CFO of NLC Saeed-ur-Rehman. Further more, the PAC, in its ruling directed the Secretary Planning and Development to refer the whole case including all reports received from various quarters, to the Chairman NAB for carrying out further detailed investigation to determine liability ,if any, under the NAB Ordinance 1999. Meanwhile, audit officials told a sub-committee of PAC that country’s former Ambassador to Indonesia sold a portion of Embassy in Jakarta without knowledge of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the big baboos held an honest officer responsible for the same. – Nation
