ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday called for holding of a government-business dialogue to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Japan both at public and private sectors.Talking to Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi Oe who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr they discussed matters relating to Pak-Japan bilateral relations.They also discussed mutual cooperation in various areas with particular focus on the promotion of trade and investment between the two countries.The President recalled his visit to Japan in February this year and said the two countries needed to follow up the implementation of decisions made by the leadership of the two countries during the visit.
He hoped it would further promote Pak-Japan bilateral cooperation particularly in the fields of trade, investment, energy and infrastructure development.He thanked the Japanese government’s readiness for providing assistance to Pakistan in the field of education, human resource development, promotion of employment and health, including for the Pakistan Polio Initiative.He said there exists great potential for robust trade and investment and urged further jacking up the trade volume between the two countries.Hiroshi Oe expressed the hope that the new avenues explored during the last visit of the President to Japan would take Pak-Japan bilateral cooperation to new heights with increased trade and investment to the mutual benefit.He also assured continued support of the Japanese government in combating terrorism, revival of the economy besides supporting Pakistan’s efforts in the development of the power sector, management and administration of water resources and infrastructure development. – APP
