Emergency has been declared in Peshawar hospitals as relief efforts are underway.At least 73 people were killed and hundreds of others were injured when two suicide bombers ripped through an FC centre in Shabqadar area of Charsadda on Friday.According to Charsadda Deputy Superintendent of Police Jehanzeb Khan, the bombers came to the FC centre on motorcycles and blew themselves up at the main gate where 35 personnel were on duty.
The explosions detonated as 818 newly trained cadets were getting into buses and coaches for a 10-day leave after their course, and they were wearing civilian clothes, FC commandant Officer Akbar Hoti said. He said nine officials are in serious condition.“At least 73 people have been killed,” Charsadda District Police Officer Nisar Khan Marwat said, adding that the suicide bombers were two in number. At least 8-10 kilogrammes of explosive material was used in the blasts, he said.At least 68 victims were the Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel, he said, adding that five civilians were also among the dead. At least 19 dead bodies and 119 injured were brought to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.At least 12 vehicles and 15 shops also destroyed in the blasts, Marwat said.Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistani has accepted the responsibility of the suicide attack. – Daunya
