Lahore: Stray bullet injures cameraman of Dunya News near Punjab Assembly

Cameraman of Dunya TV Fayyaz Umar was injured by a stray bullet coming from the opposite side near P.The assembly session started after a 2-day break but it was postponed for half an hour after the noisy hassle of the members. The reports gathered in a camp to report the proceeding when a stray bullet coming from the direction of Wapda House tore the tent sheet and hit cameraman of Dunya TV Fayyaz in the back bone. The Rescue 1122 took Fayyaz to Ganga Ram Hospital where he was given first aid treatment.According to police, this was 30 bore pistol’s bullet that was fired from the distance of 600 metre.Journalists unions including Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) said they would boycott the assembly until an independent investigation into the shooting was carried out and the responsible were arrested. A case has been registered against unidentified persons.

President Punjab Union of Journalists Rana Azeem said that action should be taken against the people involved in the incident.President Lahore Press Club Sarmad Bashir said that they will continue the protest until the case was registered.Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah said that a thorough investigation of incident will be conducted.Opposition Leader in Punab Assembly Raja Riaz said that today a cameraman has been targeted and tomorrow it can injure an MPA. This incidence is meant to harass the journalist community, Raja said.Depty Speaker Rana Mashood said that the accused of firing would be disclosed.Federal Minister for Information Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that any act of terrorism against media is unaccepted. Former opposition leader Chaudhry Zaheer also condemned the incident.A search operation has been launched in surroundings of the Punjab Assembly – Dunyanews
