Gilani assures socio-economic development in KPK

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday lauded the sacrifices of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA in the war against terrorism and assured to bring about a socio-economic change.Talking to new Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar here at the Prime Minister House, Gilani said the people of the province rightfully deserve focused attention leading to economic opportunities.He hoped that it would curb extremist tendencies and bring the people into the mainstream of national affairs.The Prime Minister asked the Governor to closely monitor the development works in FATA and flood-affected areas to ensure quality and their timely completion.He also pointed at the need of ensuring that the IDPs from the militancy-affected areas of FATA and particularly, those from Waziristan are properly looked after and facilitated in rehabilitation.The Prime Minister said that he would visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa soon to see for himself the progress on mega projects and development efforts in the FATA region.He said that an amount of Rs six billion has already been allocated for the development of FATA which includes gas supply, electrification and schemes of FATA MNAs and Senators.He asked the Governor that elected representatives of different areas including FATA be taken on board while formulating development plans as well as at the implementation stage.The Prime Minister congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the Nowshera Bar Association and mentioned that he would be meeting the lawyers’ community of the province during his visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa thanked the Prime Minister for reposing confidence in him and assured to work whole heartedly for the welfare of the people of the province.He said that he would be looking forward to guidance from the Prime Minister as well as support from the Federal Government in discharging his responsibilities.The Governor said Prime Minister’s expected visit to the province would boost morale of the peace loving people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.He assured to visit various areas of the province and FATA regions and to make the best efforts to develop close relations with leadership of all the political parties particularly the coalition partners in the larger interest of the province – APP
