LONDON:New kit for Pakistan cricket team for the upcoming World Cup was unveiled at the Pakistan High Commission Tuesday.Designed by the official sponsors of Pakistan Cricket team, Boom Boom Cricket, the shirt was presented to the High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan by Lord Richard Newby, Chairman, Sports for Life UK Foundation, and Ali Ehsan, Managing Director Boom Boom Cricket UK . High Commissioner appreciated efforts of Boom Boom Cricket and Sports for Life foundation for promotion of cricket at the grass roots level in Pakistan.Reckoning his meeting with Lord Newby two years ago on the occasion of Annual Party Conference of Liberal Democrats, the High Commissioner said he was delighted to see the materialization of an idea discussed with him to engage Pakistani youth in healthy activities such as sports.He said cricket being the most popular sport in Pakistan, the passion of youth for this sport need to be harnessed through providing proper training and facilities. He said that the Sport for Life Programme which is being run successfully in many countries of the world will go a long way in promoting cricket in Pakistan particularly when it is going through difficult times.Sports for Life Foundation is a part of Prince Charles Trust.Lord Newby briefed about the salient features of the programme in Pakistan. He said that there are many cricket grounds in Pakistan which remain under utilized, which Sports for Life is utilizing for practical training of young men and women.Besides giving training in Cricket the programme also educates young people about skills and values for good life. So far the programme is operative in Mirpur Azad Kashmir and will soon be expanding its sphere to other areas of Pakistan as well.Former Pakistan Test captain Asif Iqbal and head of Sports for Life Pakistan Javed Khan also attended the unveiling of new kit for Pakistan team.On the occasion a souvenir bat was also signed by the High Commissioner, Lord Newby and Asif Iqbal for Sports for Life Foundation – APP
