Terror attacks on police leave six dead, 18 others injured in City

PESHAWAR: Six people including four policemen were  killed and 18 others injured in twin terrorist attacks on police in provincial capital on Monday, police said. SSP Operation Ejaz Khan told reporters that DSP Peshawar Circle, Abdur Rashid Khan, his two bodyguards among five persons were killed and 14 others injured when a suicide bomber targeted the van of slain DSP at village Qamardin on Kohat Road this morning.  The body of slain DSP and other police men were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for postmortem. The funeral prayer of slain cops would be held at Police Lines here. AIG Bomb Disposal Sqad, Shafqat Malik told reporters at site of explosion that the teenaged suicide bomber targeted the vehicle of slain DSP when he was coming for duty.Malikl said that about five kilogram explosives were used. DSP Rashid Khan survived two attacks earlier at Gulbahar Peshawar. He said  the head and legs of bomber has been found and would be sent for DNA test.In yet another terror attack, a police constable was killed and four persons sustained injuries when unknown miscreants targeted a police mobile van with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Tajabad on Ring Road near Hayatabad on Monday.The mobile of Tajabad police-post was patrolling on Ring Road when IED bomb planted on roadside went off with remote-control device. The mobile of Peshtakhara police station was on routine patrolling on Ring Road when an IED bomb planted on roadside was exploded.
Resultantly, policeman Nasir Khan died instantly and four persons including police cops Nadar Khan, Mumtaz Khan and Ganiur Rehman injured.

The wounded were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour strongly condemned the attacks and said it might be a reaction to the ongoing operations against militant groups in the tribal areas.The Senior Minister told reporters that such attack would not deter their resolve to flush out militants. He said the government would leave no stone unturned for protection of the motherland and such covert incidents would not deter them from uprooting militancy.
Bilour eulogized the unmatched services of the cops in war against terror saying that the Shaheed DSP was a brave police officer who embraced martyrdom in line of duty and his sacrifice would not go waste. Later, he visited Lady Reading Hospital and inquired about health of injured. He directed hospital administration to provide best medical facilities to wounded – APP
