KARACHI:Hundreds of angry employees of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) who were sacked on a short notice by the privatised management of the utility literally attacked the head office of the power utility on the busy shopping area of Abdullah Haroon Road on Thursday and ransacked a number of rooms, disturbing furniture and computers. Some of the workers broke the windowpanes and other fittings in and around the building. A couple of vehicles supposedly of KESC officers parked in the parking lot were vandalised. They broke windscreens and window glasses on car.Eye witnesses said that roughly 2000 employees who had put in long service in the organisation arrived at the KESC head office in batches and after holding a brief demonstration in front of the building, they forced their way up to six storied building which houses almost all the offices of power utility.

Private guards were taken care of up by emotionally charged employees when they tried to stop them from going up.Some of those who witnessed the incident inside the building on higher floors said that a number of senior officers tried to avoid the protesters and hide themselves in safe places. But the big number of senior officers sensing trouble did not come to office or left early before the protesters arrived. In the meantime, the traffic flow on Abdullah Haroon Road came to a stand still and there was long tail of traffic jam which also affected surrounding areas. The employees and their CBA and others unions sit down in the front of the KESC head office and demanded that all the sacked workers were taken back. Workers Union leaders including Akhlaq Khan, Latif Mughal, Arbab Asad, Ayaz Mengal, Aslam Samoon, Usman Baloch vowed that they would not quit unless the employees were restored – Nation
