PESHAWAR: Head of German Red Cross (GRC) Pakistan Dirk Kam has said that German government will build and assist the primary healthcare units in Swat and Chitral as it did in Dadu, Badin and Thatta districts of Sindh. The GRC, he said, was providing relief to the disaster affected people in Pakistan since 2005 earthquake and in this connection was running long and short-term cooperation policies with the support of Pakistan Red Crescent Society. He expressed these views at a meeting with PRCS chairman Dr Sher Mohammad Khan here on Thursday. Dirk Kam was accompanied by Ms Birgit Velet, Desk Officer, Task Force Pakistan, GRC, according to a press release.Dirk Kam said that GRC planned to launch primary healthcare strengthening activities and would also outline fundraising strategy for branches with support of external consultancy and branches.Similarly, warehouses would be constructed in district branches of PRCS Chitral, Shangla and Kohistan. The GRC head suggested that evaluation should take place in health and other relief projects as it was an essential part of programme implementation.

He also appreciated the PRCS efforts and support in the ongoing relief projects and activities and said that Red Cross/Red Crescent teams jointly had almost achieved the target of serving humanity.APP adds: A leading Berlin-based NGO `German Aid for Afghan Children` (GAAC) has given solar-powered energy generators and cooking equipments to flood affected people of Swat. The organization has begun a one-million-Euro worth relief and reconstruction work in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts worst hit by floods.GAAC had announced in 2010 the distribution of solar-powered lithium batteries to generate electricity and solar cooking equipment for the planned 1,000 families of Swat, Nowshera, Pabbi and Bannu districts.GAAC draws extensive experience of organising affected people, following the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan and is also extending support to flood survivors.“GAAC has fulfilled its promise by bringing electricity to your homes and easing the kitchen work for the women, who were in desperate situation due to the massive floods, which killed thousands of people, destroyed houses and washed away livelihoods of the people here,” said Dr Reinhard Eroes, president GAAC while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the solar project in Governai village of Swat valley – Dawan
