LAHORE:The funeral of Governor Punjab Salman Taseer who was assassinated by his extremist bodyguard in Islamabad was held at the Governor’s House here Wednesday.Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chairman Senate Farooq A. Naik, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar,Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Minister for Labour Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, PPP General secretary Jahangir Badar, MQM delegation comprising Babur Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Former Foreign Minister Khursheed Qasuri, PPP Peoples Bureau Chief Ch Manzoor Ahmed as well as former Punjab Governors Ghulam Mustafa Khar and Khalid Maqbool were among the prominent personalities who attended the funeral prayers of the Salman Taseer.
PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, PPP Punjab Ministers, including Raja Riaz Ahmed, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Dr. Tanveer ul Islam, Farooq Yusuf Ghurki, PML (N) provincial Ministers Malik Nadeem Kamran and Haji Ehsan ud Din Qureshi, MNAs, MPA belonging to the four provincial Assemblies, representatives from Gilgat Baltistan (GB) and Azad Kashmir, PPP office bearers and a huge number of PPP workers from across the country and thousands of people belonging to various walks of life were also present at the funeral prayers.The Punjab government had made tight security arrangements around the Governor’s House and sealed all routes leading to it. Heavy police contingents equipped with sophisticated weapons were deployed to ensure security during the funeral of Salman Taseer. PPP ‘jiyalas’ thronged the Governor’s House lawns carrying PPP flags and raised slogans “Zinda hae Bhutto Zinda hae”, “Alwida alwida Salman Alwida”.President PPP Ulema Wing Mualana Muhammad Afzal Chishti led the janaza of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.Later, the body of the martyred Salman Taseer was flown to the Cavalry ground graveyard by a military helicopter – App
