ISLAMABAD: Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of Punjab Police, which failed to recover the stolen car of a senator, a Senate committee on Monday summoned the Punjab IGP. The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges met with Tahir Mashhadi in the chair at the Parliament House on Monday.

The committee was told that the police had failed to protect the life and property of the people. Senator Zahid Khan said his car was stolen on September 21 from Westridge area of Rawalpindi but regretted that Regional Police Officer (RPO), Hamid Mukhtar Gondal, did not respond to his phone call.

The RPO called him when he contacted his high-ups. Being a public servant, police have to respond immediately, he added. He said he had received a telephone call from the thieves, who demanded money against his car.

He provided the telephone numbers and other information to the police. “I also contacted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and they assured full cooperation,” he added. But he regretted that the Punjab Police never bothered to follow the case. Senator Salahuddin said when Zahid had provided details to the police, why were they not taking any action to arrest the thieves.

Committee chairman called the Punjab IGP and interior secretary in the next meeting and directed Punjab Police to investigate the case and recover the car immediately. ijaz kakakhel – Dailytimes
