LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) workers went out of control following a heated exchange of words, at a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal in connection with the 134th birth anniversary of the Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Party leaders, however, managed to control the situation.The Markazia Majlis-e-Iqbal (MMI), had organised the ceremony, which was addressed by PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PML-N MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique, Kursheed Mehmood Kasuri, and PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Sadar Warriach. Allama Iqbal’s grandson Muneej Iqbal, MMI Chairman Mian Muhammad Afzal, MMI Secretary General Arif Nizami, Qayyum Nizami, Maulana Raghib Naeemi were also present on the occasion.
The ceremony hall echoed with slogans of ‘Quaid-e-Azam Zinda Baad’. After the situation was calmed down, most leaders stressed the need for unity in their speeches.Speaking on the occasion, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat said that unity was a prerequisite for the development of the country. He urged all the political parties and their workers to show unity among their ranks for the collective good of the country. He said that no amendments should be made in the law of Tahafaz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat.Khursheed Kasuri said that in order to reunite the country we should adopt the ideology and the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam. He said that no development was possible without unity.Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the nation was at a point of instability due to the prevailing socio-economic issues in the country. He said that everybody makes mistakes but to learn from those mistakes was the important thing, especially for political leaders.PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said that Pakistani nation was not in favour of martial law. “The government of PPP has abolished all amendments made in the constitution during the regimes of dictators,” Warriach said. Other speakers also stressed on the need to practice the principles set by Quaid-e-Azam to establish sovereignty, unity and to put Pakistan on the path of development – Dailytimes
