40 killed, 70 injured in two suicide attacks in Mohmand Agency

PESHAWAR, Dec 6 (APP): At least 40 tribesmen were killed and 70 others injured in two suicide explosions outside the office of Assistant Political Agent Ghalanai, the agency’s headquarter of Mohmand Agency on Monday, officials said.According to Political Tehsildar Mohmand Agency, Shamsul Islam it was suicide attacks, targeting members of peace committee of Khwazai and Safai tribes gathered at Jirga Hall. He said upto 40 tribal people were killed and 70 others injured in deadly blasts.He informed newsmen that a jirga of peace committee of Alizai and Safi tribe was in progress at the office of Assistant Political Administration,Ghalanai, Roshan Khan Mehsud when two suicide bombers tried to enter into premises and blew themselves up when stopped by security personnel.

Most of the victims tribesmen of Khwazai and Safai Peace Committee were coming out from the Jirga Hall when fell prey to the twin blasts. The casualty figure may increase further as condition of several victims are stated by very critical.

The injured are rushed to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where emergency has been enforced. The bang of explosion was heard in long distance that created fear among tribesmen. Human flesh of victims laid scattered in the area and injured cried for help.

Twenty injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where condition of some victims is stated to be critical. The identity of victims could not be  immediately ascertained.

Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and Chief Minister KPK, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti have strongly condemned the deadly blasts and termed it cowardice act of terrorism. They directed the hospital administration for provision of better medical facilities to injured. They said that perpetrators would not be left alone and would be brought to justice.

They prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed souls in peace and grant courage to members of the bereaved families to bear this loss with patience and early recovery of the injured – APP
