KESC offers connections to Kunda users

The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has launched the ‘Community Anti-Theft Social Development Partnership Programme’ in Korangi Sector No. 10 under which applications for new electricity connections are being received from local residents who are using Kunda systems.A KESC press release stated that a ‘New Connection Mobile Service’ office for receiving more connection applications has been stationed in Korangi area till all aspiring applicants deposit their papers for new connections.“A ceremony was held the other day to launch KESC’s connection drive in the area. Member National Assembly Asif Hasnain was the chief guest on the occasion. The ceremony was organised to elicit response from around 40,000 to 50,000 residents of the recently developed Korangi Sector, called Bagh-e-Millat. In the absence of regular supply of electricity, almost all the 2,500 households had been using power through kundas,” the statement read.

“Salient features of KESC’s connection scheme include provision of new connection at a discount price of 50 per cent, Rs. 6,000 instead of Rs. 12,000 at present, to be received in seven instalments, 40 per cent with application and remaining amount in six equal parts with the upcoming current bills. While granting new connection to such consumers, no outstanding dues will be charged for the past illegal use of power. At the same time, the connections will be provided on fast track basis. Finally, 10 per cent of the total revenue coming from such a locality will be sent back on the general civic development of the same area,” the release added.In Sector No. 10 of Korangi, the electricity supply network including laying of low tension power cables, erection of poles and fixing of PMTs has already been completed under the Rs. 40 million electrification scheme for the Sector. KESC has also announced to donate a water purification plant of 20,000 litre capacity for the benefit of the local residents that would be financed from10 per cent of the total revenue from this area.

In his key speech to the gathering, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer KESC, Ghufran Atta Khan, said that the first event of KESC-Community anti-theft social development partnership programme could become possible through the cooperation of local political leadership. “This programme would be taken to other such areas all across the city. Elimination of illegal use of electricity is an essential requirement to end the curse of load shedding. KESC had been making all out efforts to educate the general public in this regard through various campaigns and drives,” he added.The political leaders present on the occasion assured the power utility of full support in future. DCOO Region 3 KESC Amer Zia also spoke on the occasion.Meanwhile, KESC has announced that due to Annual Preventive Maintenance, power supply to SITE industrial area, Usmania Colony (Rizvia Society), Pak Colony, Nazimabad No. 3, Paposh (Nazimabad), Peerabad and nearby areas will be interrupted on Sunday (today) from 10:00am to 06:00pm. Also on Sunday, due to the installation of a PMT, power supply to Ahsanabad Industrial Area will be interrupted on Sunday from 10:00am to 12:00pm – Thenews
