Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has developed Investment Guide with the purpose to attract investment in the province. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Investment Guide – a gateway to business success in Asia has identified different potential sectors with possible investment areas including investment projects in these sectors.”Main concept behind the initiative is to highlight the potential investment areas with maximum return,” said Javed Iqbal Khattak, Provincial Chief Smeda, KP while talking to media men in his office on Wednesday. The document includes introduction of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and information on different industrial estates in the province and important points of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Industrial Policy 2005 have also been highlighted.Major economic sectors identified by the guide are minerals, hydel, horticulture, tourism, furniture and fisheries containing details of viable investment projects in these economic sectors. It also contains relevant SROs providing incentives to machinery importers on zero rate and other relevant sectors’ specific policies have also been included in this guide.Javed Iqbal Khattak said that the document has been developed after thorough consultations with both public and private sector stakeholders. Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Investment Facilitation Centre (IFC SDA), Board of Investment (BoI), Industries Department Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had fully supported Smeda in the compiling of the investment guide.

The document is developed by focusing on the present investment areas, Smeda with other partner organisations will carry out the exercise when needed by including prospective investment projects that come in the future on identification of business community and other stakeholders, either from the public or the private sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), he said has been blessed with tremendous opportunities. Our natural resources have not been exploited and our human resource is hard working, willing to undertake difficult endeavours and is virtually enterprising. The business community has hailed the efforts of the Smeda for compiling of the Investment Guide on the potential sectors, saying it will go long way in attracting investment to the province. The federal and provincial governments are making efforts for the revival of the economy of the terrorism-hit province and have announced a three special financial relief package. The document prepared by Smeda would help attract both local and foreign investors to the province. – Brecoder
