Pak-US friendship turned into comprehensive partnership: Gilani

ISLAMABAD, Oct 11 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Monday that Pakistan’s friendship with the United States has been transformed into a comprehensive partnership.Addressing a luncheon ceremony here at the PM House for the outgoing US Ambassador Anne W Patterson, Prime Minister Gilani said “Pakistan attaches great value to the contributions made by her in this regard”.Gilani said democracy had taken roots in Pakistan as was vividly demonstrated by the vibrancy of Parliament and the debates in the media.The Prime Minister said the Pakistani nation had confronted boldly the challenges of terrorism and extremism and the resilience of its people and institutions had been tested time and again. He said it had shown a steadfast resolve and inherent strength of the Pakistani nation.Commenting on the role of outgoing Ambassador in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries, the Prime Minister said,” Pakistan considers her a true friend and an outstanding representative of USA”.
He specially mentioned her visits to the flood-hit areas and said her act of kindness would greatly be missed by those affected by the calamity and wished her good luck in her future endeavours.
Ms. Anne W. Patterson reciprocating the views said she was pleased to see transformation of bilateral relations into a long term strategic partnership that was beneficial for the two countries.
She termed the return to democracy in Pakistan as of great significance for the country and appreciated the Prime Minister’s reconciliatory role in Parliament to resolve major national issues.
She appreciated Pakistan’s contribution in war against terrorism and acknowledged that the sacrifices made by the people and the armed forces were duly recognized throughout the world.
