ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP): President of the Republic of France Nicolas Sarkozy conferred the highest French military award, Legion of Honour (L’gion d’honneur) to Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid. The award was conferred on behalf of the French President by Ambassador of France to Pakistan Daniel Jouanneau in a simple ceremony held at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chaklala on Tuesday.
Ambassador Jouanneau speaking on the occasion said that during his tenure as CJCSC, General Tariq has played a major role in consolidation and modernization of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and pursued close engagement earning respect of the foreign partners, and that his country wanted to express its appreciation and gratitude to General Tariq Majid for enhancing bilateral ties and defence cooperation between the two countries. “That is why President Nicolas Sarkozy has decided to confer the title of Officer of the Legion of Honour, the highest French National Order,” he said.General Tariq Majid conveyed his thanks to the people, the armed forces and the Government of France for honouring him.
He stated that more than recognition of his contributions towards furthering bilateral ties and defence collaboration between Pakistan and France,it is a tribute to the people and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, and reflects common desire of the two countries to further strengthen this relationship, and make it more robust, multidimensional and mutually beneficial – App
