ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (APP): Minister for Interior A. Rehman Malik Monday said that lawyers of Dr. Aafia would soon visit Islamabad to consult the Pakistan government and her family as to how ensure her early repatriation from the US.Addressing a press conference along with Dr. Fouzia, sister of Dr. Aafia here at his office, he said Pakistan and USA have already signed two treaties on exradition of prisoners. However, Dr. Aafia does not fall under ambit of two treaties and the government has to sign another convention with USA for her repatriation.? He said the government in consultation with the lawyers of Dr. Aafia and her family members would go to any length for her repatriation.
Meanwhile, he said a letter would be written to US president Obama on behalf of Dr. Aafia?s parents and children for her release. He further said that a high level committee comprising representatives of Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Law & Justice and Interior and two eminent lawyers has been tasked to explore legal ways and means for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui repatriation from USA to Pakistan.
He said the Committee would also take on board Dr. Fouzia and would examine the possibility of filing an appeal against the judgment of US Court and hiring of US Lawyer for the said purpose.
Meanwhile, an interparty delegation comprising women parliamentarians from all the provinces, will be sent to USA to meet officials of the US State Department, US Attorney General’s Office, US Homeland Security Officials, Legal Fraternity including Congressmen / Senators and members of Civil Society to agitate the matter.
Dr. Fouzia expressed her satisfaction over the efforts made by Pakistan government for Dr. Aafia and said “I acknowledge the efforts of Pakistan government for Dr. Aafia but I would be satisfied when on her release – APP
