A welcome to ‘Montgomerieshire’ sign awaited the United States’ Ryder Cup team today as they touched down in Wales.
Corey Pavin’s team landed in Cardiff at 11.05am on their charter flight from Atlanta and after posing for photos with the trophy on the plane’s steps, headed straight to the main terminal building for a press conference.
The US will begin their quest to retain the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in Newport on Friday, with practice sessions getting under way on the Twenty Ten course tomorrow morning.
The American team is spearheaded by the world No1 Tiger Woods, alongside the likes of Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Stewart Cink. But it also contains five Ryder Cup rookies – Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Jeff Overton and Bubba Watson. – guardian
