KARACHI, (APP): Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation Charles Michel, heading a delegation called on Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad on Monday here at the Governor House and discussed situation arising out of the floods.
He assured the Governor of full cooperation on behalf of Belgium and other European Union countries.
The Governor thanked the Belgian minister and members of his delegation. He said that the extent of flood devastation was so enormous that “we alone cannot overcome this”. He said the flood victims would have to be rehabilitated at the earliest.
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ibad said after rescue and relief the infrastructure would have to be provided anew in the affected areas. He said that work in this regard would be performed under a comprehensive plan. He said that international aid and assistance by the governments, philanthropists and private organizations would be utilized in a co-ordinated manner.
He also stressed for provision and rehabilitation of educational and health facilities in the affected areas.
The Belgian minister was also briefed by the officials of Provincial Disaster Management Authority and UNICEF regarding the flood losses. He also visited the relief camps of the flood affectees. – App
