MULTAN (September 07 2010): President of Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) Begum Aneela Iftikhar has said the government should provide opportunities to women entrepreneurs of South Punjab to showcase their home-made creations under the chamber’s patronage on the special occasion like Eid to attract foreign buyers.

Talking to this scribe she said that South Punjab was full of skilled women who have capability to compete with India, Bangladesh and other countries of the world. The WCCI organised a number of exhibitions so that members could avail an opportunity to showcase their home-made creations. These exhibitions are organised at local hotels and the chamber bears most of the financial burden. There is a dire need to have a display centre so that the members don’t have to bear extra expenses by renting hotel rooms.

“The WCCI has a licence now but we still need a place to showcase our work. The government should facilitate us on every front to provide equal opportunities. The government should increase quota for foreign delegates so that we can capture market in international fairs since foreigners have an inclination towards our traditional handicrafts and garments,” she said. The president WCCI thanked Gilani for providing free stalls to Multan Chamber in international fair recently, and hoped that this practice would continue to project the poor skilled women of this neglected area.

The president WCCI said that the chamber aspired to support small businesses in establishing and strengthening them. They also provide medium and large businesses and professionals with guidelines and technical support. The WCCI also acts as an arena for members to get to know each other and benefit as a group. Through monthly meetings, the members get a chance to interact with each other and discuss various issues, she said. “We organise different awareness programmes and lectures to facilitate our members,” she concluded – Brecorder
