What the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, has said while inaugurating Kassa Hills Marble Project in Loralai district of Balochistan makes a lot of sense and sends a clear signal to the ruling elite that if peace and progress are to be achieved in the province, development activity has to be generated. He also clearly stated that Balochistan is rich in mineral resources and its people have the first right on it.This was General’s own style of saying that the prevailing situation in the province was due to the wrong policies of successive government in Islamabad and that the need of the hour was to give the Baloch what is their right. He also highlighted that to achieve this objective it was essential to ensure peace without which no progress or development could be made. The Army Chief also availed of the opportunity to list what the military was doing in the province mentioning the establishment of a military college where classes would begin in April this year and recruitment of 4000 Baloch youth in various ranks of the army. He also announced that another lot of 5000 youth would also be inducted this year. The COAS said the Gwadar Institutes of Technical Education was handed over to the Army after the concerned civilian department failed to make it functional.
