Rs 9.8 billion released for 9,203 schemes

The Finance Ministry has released Rs 9.8 billion for 9,203 development schemes of parliamentarians under People’s Work Programme (PWP-1), 2009-10 across the country. According to documents seen by this correspondent, 2471 development schemes were completed, while 6732 could not be completed so far due to lapse of funds.As per details, for Punjab, the ministry has released Rs 4.14 billion for 3573 schemes, in which 973 were completed. The ministry released Rs 3.77 billion for MNAs of Punjab for 3322 schemes in which 950 were completed, while Rs 367.85 million were released for senators for 251 schemes wherein 23 were only completed.For Sindh, the ministry released Rs 2.2 billion for 1127 schemes in which 209 were completed. A total of Rs 1.83 billion had been released for MNAs for 976 schemes but only 191 were completed so far while Rs 356.929 million had been released for senators for 151 schemes in which 18 were completed.For Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa, the Ministry has released Rs 1.7 billion for 2721 schemes in which 422 were completed. Rs 1292.454 million has been released for 1988 development schemes for MNAs in which 279 were completed while Rs 401.281 million for Senators for 733 development schemes.Similarly, for Balochistan, the Ministry has released Rs 1.01 billion for 756 development schemes in which only 77 were completed so far. Rs 647.457 million had been released for MNAs’ schemes while Rs 360.204 million for senators. For FATA, Rs 597.92 million had been released for 908 development schemes in which 753 were completed. Similarly, for Islamabad, Rs 167.327 million had been released for 128 schemes while only 37 were completed.

These schemes are construction of roads, electrification, gas pipeline, education, health, sanitation, telephone and others. Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has released funds to PAK PWP, PEPCO, DCO/P-GOVT, SNGPL, LGRD, SSGC, KESC and others for these development schemes.Meanwhile, the members of Senate standing committee on local government and rural development on Monday expressed grave concern for not releasing funds on time due to which many funds were lapsed. They expressed concerns in a meeting held in Parliament House. They said that many schemes were not completed due to lapse of funds. The committee recommended that the government should immediately release funds and to reallocate those funds which have been lapsed – Brecorder
