DUBAI :A mega concert and an exhibition on the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) will be the highlights of the four-day National Day celebrations at the Global Village, the premier cultural, shopping and family entertainment destination in the Middle East, on Thursday. The mega concert, which will be performed on December 2 at the amphitheatre that accommodates 3,500 spectators, will be performed by local talents, including four top artistes under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.International performers from France, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, and India will continue to stage cultural shows at various stages within Global Village.Saeed Ali bin Redha, CEO of Global Village, said the exhibition will be held at the Islamic Pavilion, a new feature in this year’s 15th edition of the Global Village. He said six concerts in five weeks will be performed at the Global Village with ‘Global Grooves’ World Music Concerts entertaining the crowd starting today. The Wednesday events will host five concerts to be performed by top singers and bands from Canada, Sri Lanka, Latin America, the Philippines and India.

Ali said that the concerts will be held every  Wednesday in December until the end of the year while the exhibition will continue until the Global Village closes on February 28. The series, which are free to visitors, will open with the hottest stars Bathiya and Santhush of Sri Lanka, who have performed all over the world, in both Sinhalese and English. Performing alongside will be Ashanti, ‘Queen of Sri Lankan hip hop music’ and the youngest and only female artiste in the island country to be signed up by an internationally recognised record label. The second concert on December 8 will present the fastest rising Bollywood playback singer Suzanne D’Mello who sang for AR Rahman’s Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack and many other hit film songs, and was recently invited to perform for Canada’s largest international festival ‘Luminato’.

The concert on December 15 will feature Vancouver’s world music band Delhi-2-Dublin — a group that has created its own niche with gritty hip-hop and electronic beats, traditional Punjabi percussion influences and a raw Celtic sound that packs a powerful punch.A concert of the trio of singers ‘La Divas’ from the Philippines will entertain Global Village visitors. This all-girl pop group was born out of the GMA television network and the three incredible singers have become immensely popular in the Philippines for both their Tagalog and international hit songs. The concluding concert on December 29 will see Colombian singer Fatiniza enthralling music fans with popular and traditional Latin rhythms as well as songs from her debut album Confusion which went straight into the Top 10 list of Virgin Dubai Radio and established her as a promising international artiste. She also earned a nomination for a Time Out Dubai Nightlife Award for Best Artiste in 2010 – Khaleejtimes
