Baby found in Calgary dumpster

A newborn baby boy has been found alive in a northwest Calgary dumpster.Police said the baby was found Tuesday at about 1:20 p.m. MT in a garbage bag in a trash container behind Queen’s Park Village, a townhouse complex at Fourth Street and 40th Avenue.The baby was immediately taken to hospital. Calgary EMS said he was in serious but non-life-threatening condition in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Foothills Hospital.Queen’s Park resident James Patton was one of the first people on the scene when the baby was discovered. He was walking his dog when another resident heard a cry from the garbage bin, he said.“This other gentleman over here … came over and jumped in the can and found a baby in a garbage bag,” Patton said. “Then he went to get a towel. I pulled my shirt off and tried to warm the baby as best I could.”
Patton said the infant was moving and breathing, and he thought the child would be OK.”I’m sick. I can’t believe they would do that to anything,” Patton said. “I’ve lived in Calgary all my life and I’ve never seen anything like that before. It’s not right.”EMS said a woman in her 20s was also transported from the scene to the hospital, where she was in stable condition.Calgary police Duty Insp.
