WASHNGTON, Sept 17 (APP): U.S. Secretary of State Hilllary Clinton will join top world diplomats at a United Nations conference on Sunday to express continued international support for Pakistan’s massive flood relief and recovery effort.Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will represent Pakistan at the conference as Islamabad strives to provide relief to around 20 million people affected by the unprecedented natural disaster.
According to Assistant Secretary of State Esther Brimmer, Sunday’s conference will be the first of a series of international diplomatic commitment Secretary Clinton is scheduled to have on the occasion of UN General Assembly session in New York.
The senior level gathering will discuss ongoing international flood relief for Pakistan, she said at a briefing on Friday.
“This is a follow up to a similar gathering that was held in August and was designed to encourage and rally support for humanitarian relief in that country,” she said.
US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Hollbrooke,currently in Pakistan, will also attend the conference. -app
