75th Convocation of the Kinnaird CollegeLAHORE: The 75th Convocation of the Kinnaird College for Women (KCW) was held on Friday, at the Perin Boga Amphitheatre of the institute.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was the chief guest on the occasion, while the ceremony was presided over by KCW Board of Governors Chairman Dr Alexander John Malik.The PM awarded degrees to 221 post-graduates and 280 graduates. As many as 36 students were on the Principal’s Honour and Merit lists with a CGPA of 3.80 and above.The Mira Phailbus Gold Medal was awarded to Tehreem Arslan Aurakzai of English Literature, Isakhel Gold Medal to Hafiza Maria Aftab of Environmental Sciences, Boswell Gold Medal to Zara Raza of Zoology, Lily Najmuddin Dramatics Gold Medal to Jahan Leena Masood of Media Studies, Asma Jamil Debates Gold Medal to Osheen Fatima of Fsc Part-II, Anwarul Haq Pure Sciences Gold Medal to Ayesha Munir of Chemistry, Angoori Humanities Gold Medal to Neha Zariq of English Literature, SM Zafar Social Sciences Gold Medal to Summeya Sauleh of Political Science and Professor Qazi Mohammad Fareed Professional Studies Gold Medal was awarded to Mirha Masood of Business Studies.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Alexander Malik congratulated the outgoing students, and hoped that the values inculcated in the students by the institute would help them not only in their professional and practical lives but also at their personal ends.KCW Principal Dr Rukhsana David also congratulated the graduates and said that the college was proud of them, as most of them had already joined the workforce or were studying abroad.

Addressing the gathering, PM Gilani said the PPP government had taken keen interest in resolving the issues of women and minorities. He said that students of Kinnaird College had a distinguished status in both educational and co-curricular activities.He urged the youth to work hard in the modern world of competition, saying that women would bring a positive change in society.

The PM also quoted Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s saying that ‘no nation can progress without including women’, and that ‘steps must be taken to empower women in every sector’.The PM also announced Rs 20 million for the construction of an IT Block‚ Rs 10 million as research grant‚ Rs 10 million as Endowment Fund and Rs 10 million for the purchase of vehicles for the institute. – Dailytimes
