Sports goods export increased by 2.37 percent

Sports goods export increased by 2.37 percent

ISLAMABAD: The export of sports goods from the country during the first ten months of current financial year registered an increase of 2.37 percent as compared to the same period of last year.

According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the sports goods worth US$ 269.17 million exported during the period from July-April 2011-12, which were recorded at US$ 262.94 million in first ten months of last financial year. During the period under review, the export of footballs increased by 8.74 percent as about 2,589 thousand dozen footballs worth US$ 125.83 million exported as compared to the 2,793 thousand dozen costing US$ 115.72 million in same period of last year.

However, the export of gloves decreased by 6.27 percent as it comes down from 2,966 thousand dozen during the period from July-April 2010-11 and recorded at 2,187 thousand dozen during the period under review. Meanwhile, the country earned US$ 52.78 million by exporting other sports goods as against the earning of US$ 50 million during same period of last year.

During the period from July-April 2011-12, the export of surgical goods and medical equipments also remained on up track as it registered increase of 17.41 percent. During last ten months of current financial year, surgical goods and medical equipments worth US$ 249.56 million exported as against the export of US$ 212 million in same period last year. -BusinessRecorder
