Prices of 30 commodities rise in Sept

prices of commoditiesISLAMABAD: A FAFEN monitoring report on Thursday said prices of 30 commodities including meat, sweeteners, onion, tomato and wheat, registered an average increase of 5.6 percent in September compared to August 2011.It said 15 commodities registered an average decrease of 6.3 percent while the prices of five remained unchanged. However, the report said the overall impact of price decrease was higher than the increase in September.FAFEN Retail Price Monitors collected prices of 52 commodities on 10 September 2011 from 161 retail outlets in 81 districts across the country.

The report said prices of onion and tomato went up by 40pc and 24pc respectively – most probably because of seasonal effect. The prices of chapatti plain, desi shaker, potato and rice basmati-386 increased by 10pc, 4pc, 3pc, and 2pc respectively.After Ramazan, prices of fruits registered a decrease. In September, the highest decrease was observed in the price of apple (dark red), 34pc, followed by banana 14pc and apple (golden) 10pc. Prices of chicken meat, chicken live, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and vegetable ghee also came down by 11pc, 10pc, 3pc and 1pc respectively. Among poultry products, only eggs per dozen registered a 4pc increase. However, the prices of mutton and beef registered 2pc and 1pc increase respectively.

The prices of salt powder, red chilies powder, turmeric and ginger increased by 11pc, 4pc, 2pc and 1pc respectively, while garlic’s price registered a decrease of 2pc.Among pulses the prices of chickpeas and red beans increased by 4pc and 3pc respectively while moong, white beans and black gram registered a respective decrease of 2pc, 2pc and 1pc.Prices of sugar, gur and desi shaker went up by 1pc, 2pc and 4pc respectively. Despite an increase in the price of milk by 1pc, the price of yoghurt decreased by 1pc. Similarly, vegetable ghee, cooking oil and mustard oil each registered a 1pc decrease in their respective prices.

The price of irri-6 went up by 2pc and 1pc while basmati broken registered a 2pc decrease.With the prices of wheat grain and wheat flour going up by 2pc and 1pc respectively, chapatti plain registered a 10pc increase. This might be because of an increase in the price of other inputs of chapatti plain i.e., salt powder and kitchen fuels. Among kitchen fuels, the price of firewood increased by 3pc while that of kerosene oil increased by 1pc in the observed month compared to the previous one.

Prices of cooked items went up. The price of cooked beef price went up by 13pc, followed by cooked dal place 7pc and cooked vegetable plate 7pc. The price of a prepared teacup registered 2pc increase.Both the over-the-counter available medicines, Panadol and Disprin, registered a 4pc and 3pc increase in their prices in September compared to August 2011. However, among the observed medical tests, the price of urine test (routine examination) registered an increase of 3pc. – Nation
