The army chief visited Pakistan’s high commission based here and spoke at a dinner reception hosted in his honor and attended by a large number of people from British and Pakistani communities.
Referring to December 16 tragedy in Peshawar where Taliban terrorists killed nearly 140 schoolchildren, General Sharif asserted the incident clearly tells that saboteurs can go to any extreme. He vowed to eliminate terrorists from Pakistan, saying, “Pakistan is in the state of war.” “The military courts were set up in accordance with the wish of people,” he remarked. Commenting on issues faced by IDPs displaced by North Waziristan operation, the army chief noted that the measures are being taken up for the rehabilitation of the IDPs, adding Pakistan will soon get over all the problems despite numerous challenges it is facing.
