Peshawar: Chief Amir Haider Khan Hoti has said his government would oppose centralisation of flood relief and sought transparency and accountability in distribution of relief funds for flood affectees.

Survey for distribution of 20,000 per family is underway and its provision will start right after Eidul Fitr. Distribution of compensation among heirs of flood victims has already commenced which will be completed soon.

He expressed these views while talking to local notables and mediamen on a visit to Shangla on Tuesday. Senior minister Rahimdad Khan, provincial ministers Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Ayub Ashari and Wajid Ali Khan and MPA Fazal Ullah also accompanied him on the occasion.

In reply to a query, the chief minister said the provincial government had suspended new developmental schemes worth 18 billion rupees for rehabilitation and settlement of flood affectees. He said completion of ongoing schemes will be ensured.

He said he was in Shangla for starting compensation process because flood has mostly affected this area. He said initially Rs2.7 billion have been released in this connection while more funds will be provided for later cases.

He said matter of assistance of flood affectees will be reviewed in a meeting of Council of Common Interests on Friday. He said we have tried provision of first installment to owners of damaged houses before Eidul Fitr, but now it will take time. He said smart cards will be issued to affectees within three weeks to one month.

Earlier, the chief minister distributed cheques worth 3,00,000 among heirs of flood victims during a simple gathering.

He expressed solidarity with affected families and offered fateha for the deceased. Large number of local notables and authorities of district administration were also present. – PPI – Statesman
