LAHORE: Sardar Murad Khan and Muhammad Rahman managed to stay in the limelight right through the three days of the 30th Punjab Amateur Golf Championship, which concluded at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course here on Sunday.
Honors for Murad who emerged triumphant by staying targeted and converting the final day’s 18 holes battle into a match play contest. Both these contenders for the title fought it out hole by hole with Murad always remaining upfront. While Murad had a final round score of gross 80 and a three days aggregate of 226, Rahman produced a round of gross 81 and a three rounds aggregate of 228, losing to Murad by two strokes.
And as Murad went through the final hole with a victory loaded final putt, the smile said it all. He had no hesitation in saying: “It will take time to sink in as the title is important and there have been ups and downs.” He certainly has joined the ranks of prestigious title holders. Others to win honors were Mohsin Anwar (third in the gross section), Faisal Sayid (first net), Jamal Nasir Khan (second net) and Asim Bucha (third net). The winners of best gross rounds were Wazir Ali, Mubraiz Ahmad and Ejaz Hussain Qureshi. Amongst the women the top ones were Ghazala Yasmin in gross and Kara Alam in net.
This wonderful event was supported by Al Baraka Bank and captain of Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club Amer Mehmood complimented them and hoped they would become permanent partners in future. And to a big round of applause Shafqaat Ahmed, Al Baraka Bank president, consented to this. At the conclusion of the championship, Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa awarded prizes to the winners.
