ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Friday termed the recovery of explosive material by Islamabad Police as their great achievement and said that the terror bid, aimed at targetting a building in ‘Red Zone’ has been foiled.He disclosed this at a function held at Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) Headquarters to hand over ‘logistic supply’ to ITP’s personnel for improvement in policing activities and facilitating them in their jobs for better output and traffic discipline in the city.The minister said Islamabad Police had recovered huge quantity of explosive material hidden in fire extinguishing cylinders and foiled a terror bid.
It has been ordered to suspend all such cylinders placed in various buildings and take clearance certificates from the suppliers in future, he added. Rehman Malik said that few other ‘high value targets’ have been arrested and rocket launchers, hand grenades, suicide jackets have been recovered from them. “Terrorists are on the run and are trying to disrupt peace in Islamabad but Inspector General of Police Islamabad and SSP Islamabad are working devotedly through their efficient force to foil their nefarious designs,” he added.
The minister also announced to award PPM for Sub-Inspector Sher Ali who recovered explosive material and arrested two persons who were trying to transport it into the city in two cars. Various terror groups had planned to converge here for subversive activity but this bid was foiled due to efficiency of the Islamabad Police. Rehman Malik said that 5,000 vacancies will be created in Islamabad Police to meet the security and other requirements and the Prime Minister will be requested to approve the new appointments.
The minister said that he had meetings with heads of some organizations, which involve youth in community affairs, adding that a security system with more youth participation will be evolved and it will be replicated in other cities. About the law and order situation in Karachi, he said that targeted action will continue there and he is getting daily briefings through audio and video conferencing, making directions for further success against criminal elements. He said that Government of Balochistan is in constant contact and situation in Quetta as well as Mastung is being monitored. About the Thursday’s explosion at a hotel in Blue Area of Islamabad, he ruled out any possibility of terror activity and said it occurred due to gas leakage.
To a question about All Parties Conference, he termed it a milestone in the history of the country. All the political leadership of the country sat together to ascertain that there will be no compromise over territorial integrity. He said that he had a good chat with Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif during the APC. There might be political differences among the parties but everyone is united for sovereignty of the country. Later, he visited various sections of ITP including FM Radio 92.4 during his maiden visit there. The material distributed among the traffic policemen included 100 first aid kits, water coolers, umbrellas, rain coats, stop signs, gloves, search lights, diversion boards and water barriers.
The Minister said that ITP has won great laurel in a short span of time and has been successful in maintaining exemplary traffic discipline in the city through devotion of its personnel. He said that team work of this force has made it as a role model of law enforcement agencies and hoped that it would further deliver as per expectations of the people. Inspector General of Police of Islamabad Bani Amin Khan,Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood, Superindent Mir Vaiz Niaz, Superindendent Sajid Kiyani and other police officials were also preset on the occasion. – APP
