LAHORE: Pakistanis will observe Defence Day today to mark its successful thwarting of the Indian hegemonic designs, and in the memory of the martyred who sacrificed their lives during the Pakistan-India War of 1965.The day will start with special prayers for the peace, progress and prosperity of country in an ambiance of patriotic passion, which is generated in the whole county. Various functions will be held to commemorate the day. The armed forces will carry out functions at all tiers, where officers and Jawans will remember the brave men who brought glory to the institutions, while the nation still consider their sacrifices as an epitome of selfless service to the nation.This day will make the Pakistanis recall supreme sacrifices of the armed forces, and would be proud of the officers and Jawans, who became an impregnable wall to the enemy.Who can forget Captain Sarwar Shaheed, Major Tufail Shaheed, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Sawar Muhammad Hussain, Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed, Shaheed Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas, Captain Karnal Sher Shaheed and Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed who were awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, which is the highest military award bestowed upon the martyred.Today, men in uniform and civilians will visit the mazars of these Shaheeds, lay floral wreaths, and offer Fateha for their souls.
