Karachi: National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) announced results of 8th Annual Environment Excellence Awards (AEEAs) for best performance of 2010-11.Chairman Dr Kaiser Waheed and President NFEH Naeem Qureshi announced this during the final meeting of jury held the other day at a local hotel.Waheed said the award had been instituted to recognise and promote the organisations, which make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development. They aim to highlight policies, practices, processes and products from all sectors of business in the country, which help achieve economic and social development without harming the environment and natural resources.
In this year over 148 companies and organisations had submitted their nominations.A three-member jury had finalised the name of 65 companies for the 8th AEEA-2011 awards. The jury comprising environment experts, including Dr Samiuz Zaman, Chief Executive Officer Global Environment Lab; Shamsul Haq Memon, Consultants Sindh Coastal Authority; Zaheer Beg, Executive Vice President, National Bank of Pakistan and Gulzar Firzo, Chairman Standing Committee on Environment, Federation of Pakistan Chambers and Commerce and Industry.
Award ceremony will be held at a local hotel on July 29. An interactive dialogue on ‘Environment Management’ will also be held prior to the award ceremony. Federal Minister for Environment Samina Khalid Ghurki and Chairman Intellectual Property Organisation, Pakistan Hameedullah Jan Afridi will be the chief guests on this occasion.NFEH organising AEEAs since 2004 with the support of ministry of environment and United National Environmental Programme. – Dailytimes
