LAHORE: Senior Federal Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday unveiled a Rs 2 billion Ramazan package for the provision of daily use items for people on subsidised rates.“The Ramazan relief package will help the people buy commodities from Utility Stores at cheaper rates,” he said. Addressing a conference of the Pakistan Utility Stores managers and zonal managers at the State Guest House, Elahi said that special subsidy would be offered on 14 items while the timings of the Utility Stores had also been increased to facilitate customers.
He said the government had decided to introduce an effective monitoring system to provide maximum relief to the customers. All kinds of items would be available in abundance at 5,700 Utility Stores and outlets throughout the country, the minister added.Commenting on the quality of the goods, he said that all the managers concerned would be responsible for ensuring quality of the articles on sale.“Unlike previous years, I want that people should prefer buying their daily items from the Utility Stores this year, and it can only be possible if we provide them with good quality items, which are easily accessible,” Elahi added.
The minister said that rather than believing in the politics of vengeance, he was a firm believer of serving the masses sincerely and selflessly. He advised the managers concerned to check their respective stocks and if there was shortage of any article, it should be completed before Ramazan begins. Speaking at the occasion, PML General Secretary, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, said that the Ramazan package would discourage hoarders from increasing the prices of daily use items.He said essential commodities like sugar, flour, vegetable oil and pulses would be available at the Utility Stores in access.
