KARACHI – Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday said that two letters have been written to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani seeking funds for maintenance, restructuring and improvement of irrigation system in the province as well as for payment of remaining amount of Rs 80,000 for each IDP as compensation, however, the federal government is yet to respond in this regard.He said this at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of Municipal Services Delivery Programme by USAID and Government of Sindh at CM House here on.
The chief minister said that there is need of Rs 16 billion for the purpose, as the embankments covering 1300-km of flood protective bunds are to be repaired and rehabilitated. He added that there is an apprehension of more water in River Indus during the forthcoming monsoon season, and the Government of Sindh has assigned the task to Irrigation Dept to complete the repair and rehabilitation works on embankments of River Indus by the end of April. CM Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Shujra and Advisor to CM Sindh for Planning & Development Qaisar Bengali were also present on the occasion.
