ISLAMABAD: PPP Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari has stated that the challenges of coalition politics will be handled with a sense of maturity through dialogue and negotiations. “Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has taught us how to resolve complex political issues through dialogue. Through dialogue we will also find a solution to the political challenges faced by the coalition today,” he said in a message on the 83rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to be observed on Wednesday.The President said it was through dialogue that Shaheed Bhutto recovered the territory lost in the 1971 war, brought back ninety thousand (90,000) prisoners of war and prevented the war trials of our military officers to protect the name and honour of the country.Through dialogue he concluded the Simla Accord that brought longest spell of peace between India and Pakistan, he added.
Through dialogue Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto prevailed upon a military dictator to shed uniform and thereby paved way for democratic elections, President Zardari said in the message.“Inspired by our great leaders we also employed dialogue for chasing a dictator out from the Presidency. Through dialogue and consensus the undemocratic Articles introduced into the 1973 Constitution have been removed and the democratic Constitution restored,” he added.The President said Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto responded to the political challenges of his time by awakening the people and giving them voice which no dictatorship has been able to stifle.“Using the tools of dialogue we will face all political challenges in a way that will further strengthen democracy and democratic institutions, the President said in his message.He said, “on this birthday of our Shaheed Chairman our heads bow in gratitude that we have restored in a large measure the original Constitution given to the nation under his leadership in 1973.”
“On this occasion I urge the valiant Party workers to rededicate themselves to the ideals of Bhutto and loudly proclaim to the world that Bhutto still lives in the hearts and minds of the people and, from his grave, haunts the enemies of democracy.”“My thoughts also go to innumerable Party workers who paid with their lives and liberty and endured torture and to keep the name of Bhutto and Bhuttoism alive,” he added.The President said the Party will observe this birth anniversary with due solemnity in view of the tragic assassination of Governor Salman Taseer, adding, the Party will observe a fifteen day mourning period.
“I therefore urge the workers to, while holding seminars to highlight the services of Shaheed Bhutto, also hold Quran Khawani for Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mr. Salman Taseer on the occasion – App
