GUJRANWALA: The administration has given a one-month deadline to the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to complete the construction work on Pasrur Road, Kashmir Road and Judicial Colony Road.

At a meeting chaired by Commissioner Saeed Ahmad Wahala at his office here on Monday, MNA Khurram Dastgir Khan and other participants expressed their dissatisfaction over the performance of FWO, and said people were facing a great deal of inconvenience due to delay in the construction of these roads.

The participants were informed that Rs65.251 million had been allocated for Pasrur Road while 83 per cent of its work had been completed. Similarly, Rs199.479 million for Kashmir Road and Rs104.874 million for Judicial Colony Road had been allocated and their 95 per cent and 78 per cent work, respectively, had been completed.

SIALKOT ROAD: The local chamber of commerce and industry has expressed its anguish over slow pace of construction of Sialkot Road resulting in a traffic mess on GT Road and demanded the work be completed soon.

The demand was made at a meeting held here on Sunday presided over by chamber president Sheikh Sarwat Ikram.

The meeting participants deplored the slow-paced construction work being carried out by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), saying it had been creating traffic congestions on GT Road, creating problems for pedestrians as well as motorists.

They said since Sialkot Road was a busy thoroughfare on which institutions like Gujranwala Education Board and GIFT University were situated, besides a marriage hall and some big filling stations, people find it troublesome to reach these establishments because of the ongoing construction work there.

HEARING: After conclusion of the winter vacation, the Anti-Terrorism Court-I judge will resume hearing of the Sialkot lynching case on the Central Jail premises on Tuesday (today).

As many as 23 accused, including nine police officials and former Sialkot DPO Waqar Ahmad Chohan, were booked and arrested by the police after two brothers, Mughees and Muneeb, were lynched by the people on suspicion of dacoity in Buttar village on Aug 15, 2010

ARRESTED: The police claimed on Monday to have arrested six members of a gang of robbers and seized a stolen car and two motorcycles besides unlicenced weapons from their possession.

Talking to reporters, City SP Rai Ijaz Ahmad said the suspects were wanted in cases registered with Model Town, Dhullay, Civil Lines, Satellite Town and People’s Colony police stations.

On a tip-off, the Model Town police raided a hideout and arrested ringleader Sadaqat Ali, Javed, Ashraf, Sheikh Usman, Rizwan and Riaz and seized stolen vehicles and weapons from their possession – Dawn
